It doesn’t matter if they’re new or old, every Friday Metratone posts 5 songs worth hearing to kick your weekend off. This week we’re featuring local legends WAWAWOW with their awesome new track ‘Fluoro Fitzwilliam’ and Psych-rockers ORB before making the massive leap over to Japan for Cornelius and his first record in over a decade.

WAWAWOW – ‘Fluoro Fitzwilliam’

WAWAWOW have been killing it around Sydney’s live scene for a while now with the best goddamn light show you can possibly pull off without a budget. With a seizure warning before the clip starts, their latest track Fluoro Fitzwilliam will give you as good of an idea as any as to what to expect from these guys with their own brand of skitso-punk.

ORB – ‘Reflections’

If you enjoyed Here Lies Man I covered a few weeks back, Aussie psych-rockers ORB are cut from the same metal! Distorted vocals, fuzzy guitar riffs and all topped off with a cowbell that puts Blue Oyster Cult to shame. \m/

Cornelius – ‘If You’re Here’

Japanese artist Cornelius just does it differently. From the record “Mellow Waves”, this is the first we’ve heard from Cornelius in 11 years. Playing with its instrumentation and the silence around it, ‘If You’re Here’ gives you something upfront and beautiful while never losing its soul. I’m really loving the record too…

Slow Crush – ‘Sway’

This is one for the come-down tomorrow morning. Beautiful shadowy shoegaze that sneaks up on you for over a minute before dropping hazy riffs and a tired sway of percussion that will take you into the wee hours of the morning.

Grizzly Bear – ‘Three Rings’

This song has been out for a while now but I just can’t get the damn thing out of my head. Doing what Grizzly Bear does best, the first single from their upcoming record has some of the best post-rock guitar licks available at the moment while laying out their signature vocal harmonies in the chorus’ that is getting me so so pumped for their new record out August 18th.
